Transport Manager – South Down
£40,000 – £50,000 (DOE) | On-Site | Permanent
Our client, a well-established and busy local engineering firm with a strong client base across the UK and Ireland, is seeking an experienced Transport Manager to join their South Down-based team.
In this role, you’ll oversee and coordinate transport operations from their NI headquarters across the UK, Ireland, and occasionally Europe. This is a critical position for ensuring efficient and compliant logistics in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate loads for shipping and trailer returns
- Book ferry crossings and manage freight logistics
- Monitor driver hours in line with RHA and VOSA guidelines
- Obtain permits for abnormal loads across UK and Ireland
- Ensure compliance with vehicle weight limits
- Schedule vehicle checks, maintenance, and PSVs
- Organise UK-wide breakdown recoveries
- Manage holiday cover for drivers
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience in transport or logistics management
- Strong IT and organisational skills
Working knowledge of:
- Ferry bookings and freight documentation
- Driver hours, VOSA regulations, and PSV booking
- Maintenance and compliance recording
- Ability to plan backloads to minimise mileage and hours
- Flexible approach to working hours when required
- Local to the South Down area (on-site position)
Salary is in the region of £40 -50k depending upon experience.
