Job Summary

Main Purpose:
Shift Operator working a 24/7 shift pattern based at our Belfast Terminal (Northern Ireland). The position would suit an individual seeking an exciting and rewarding career in the oil industry. Suitable applicants should have a good general education background and hold a full UK driving licence. Previous operational experience within the oil industry would be advantageous but is not essential as training will be provided.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Terminal Shift Supervisor, Operator duties would include but are not limited to:

  • Working a 24/7 shift pattern made up of 12-hour shifts.
  • Building strong working relationships with shift colleagues to ensure effective communication and handover.
  • Writing clear information regarding operational activities in the shift log.
  • Safe operation of a petroleum fuel storage and distribution terminal
  • Leading by example, perform and contribute to a very strong safety culture, always adhering to company and site safety procedures
  • Carrying out routine monitoring, testing and checking of terminal equipment
  • Preparing equipment for routine maintenance including shutting down and starting up of equipment
  • Operating marine loading equipment and co-ordinate with Jetty personnel regarding loading, jetty operations & oil movements & the transferring of petroleum products
  • Co-ordinating offloading of petroleum products received via road tankers
  • Operating and gauging storage tanks
  • Operating pumps, valves and pipelines
  • Testing, inspecting and sampling products
  • Demonstrating knowledge of risk assessments and permit to work aligned to performing safe operations and site works

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Minimum 4 GCSEs’ or equivalent

Health and Safety awareness

Practical skills possibly gained from a trade apprenticeship

Computer Literate and familiar with Microsoft Office

Physically fit and able to climb tanks and jetty equipment.

Capable to work shift pattern

Key Relationships and Department Overview:

Internal – All Operations supervisory staff and shift members, Maintenance, and Security.

External – HM Customs, Audit Personnel, Chemical deliveries and Contractors.
