NOTES TO JOB APPLICANTS

1. You must clearly demonstrate on your application form under each question, how, and to what extent you meet the required criteria as failure to do so may result in you not being shortlisted. You should clearly demonstrate this for both the essential and desirable criteria, where relevant.

Section 1 – Essential Criteria

The following are essential criteria which will initially be measured at the shortlisting stage and which may also be further explored during the interview/selection stage. The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (Northern Ireland) Order 2007 defines working directly with children or young people or in specified places as ‘regulated activity’.

Skill and expertise in the application of pool surveillance and rescue techniques.

understand importance of ensuring equipment is clean, organised and available at start of each lesson and is left cleaned and organised at end of each lesson

Support pupils to prepare for swimming lessons promoting independence in their self help skills

Know how to support the swimming teacher and pupils when needed during swimming lessons and be able to follow teacher’s directions

a working knowledge of health and safety procedures in a pool environment

Experience / knowledge

assisting with the emergency evacuation of the swimming pool e.g. in the event of a fire

Set up equipment in Sports Hall for classes e.g. boccia, badminton etc

Assist with PE classes

Ensure PE stores are clean and tidy

Set up equipment for organised school events e.g. Sports Day and help as required.
