Job Purpose
To lead and drive food safety and quality standards as part of the Technical Excellence agenda. This role works closely with the Production Stream to foster a strong food safety and quality culture, manages the Quality Technologists on site, and builds effective cross-functional relationships to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Food Safety & Culture
- Champion a culture of food safety across the site.
- Promote positive behaviours and coach team members on food safety principles.
- Ensure all team members are appropriately trained to perform tasks safely.
- Drive safety improvements through behaviour-based safety observations.
Technical Strategy
- Develop technical excellence within operations through training, coaching, and mentoring.
- Support the delivery of the Technical strategy, including KPI improvement and root cause analysis of non-conformances.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to enhance performance.
- Ensure operational teams have strong knowledge of GMP, allergen control, and quality system procedures.
Team Leadership & Development
- Build strong relationships with team members and foster a high-performing team.
- Train the team on OPEX tools, systems, and standards.
- Promote a culture of learning and development through problem-solving and team engagement.
- Communicate goals and targets clearly via team forums and MySuccess.
- Recognise achievements and address performance issues appropriately.
Operational Excellence (OPEX)
- Analyse data to identify improvement opportunities.
- Ensure adherence to standard work through layered confirmation processes.
- Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
Customer & Business Value
- Deliver the Quality agenda through production teams to ensure top-quality products.
- Act as a values champion and lead cultural survey action plans.
- Provide training and support for routine factory-based food safety and quality inspections.
Essential:
- Proficient written, numerical, and verbal communication skills.
- Fluent in English (oral and written).
- Ability to record, interpret, and analyse key process data.
- Experience with Technical Standards and GMP.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Proficient in MS Office tools.
- Understanding of lean tools and formal problem-solving methodologies.
- Detailed understanding of relevant production processes.
- HACCP Level 4 certification.
Desirable:
- Experience in coaching and mentoring.
- Familiarity with OPEX tools and systems.
- Diploma or Degree in Food Safety, Food Technology, or a related discipline.
