Operate plant machinery and lead a small team in maintaining the Council’s parks, gardens, sports pitches, and open spaces. This hands-on role involves driving vehicles, using grounds maintenance equipment, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities

Vehicle & Machinery Operation

• Drive and maintain Council vehicles and tractor-mounted machinery

• Carry out safety checks, routine maintenance, and cleaning

• Use powered hand tools and mechanical equipment

Grounds Maintenance

• Grass cutting, hedge trimming, litter clearance, and planting

• Mark out sports pitches and assist with landscaping

• Apply chemicals and fertilisers as required

Supervision & Teamwork

• Lead and support grounds staff and trainees

• Liaise with Pitch Attendants on surface conditions and bookings

• Work independently and ensure tasks are completed to a high standard

Compliance & Records

• Follow Health & Safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE

• Maintain records and complete relevant paperwork

• Promote equality, professionalism, and a positive image of the Council
