Manage and process planning applications, enforcement of planning control, preparation of development plans, policy and other related professional technical duties necessary for the effective and efficient running of the planning function.

What you’ll do

Service Delivery

  • Processing planning applications and enforcement cases and the preparation of development plans, policy and other related professional and technical duties linked to the operation of the planning function.
  • Dealing face to face, by correspondence, telephone and electronic communication with enquiries from the public, elected representatives etc.
  • Organising and undertaking site visits. Giving professional and technical advice to customers, agents, members of the general public and at other meetings as required.
  • Researching and drafting policy documents.
  • Providing professional advice to senior management in the preparation of plans, enhancements strategies, proposals for conservation areas, town centres and other settlements. Research and survey work, analysis and report writing in relation to statutory and non-statutory planning studies.

Partnership Working and Communication

  • Preparation of evidence for and attending Appeals, Public Inquiries and Court Hearings as required.
  • Using the Planning units IT systems and software to seek, organise, evaluate and communicate information effectively.
  • Participate in training and continuous professional development to meet the needs of the Planning Service so that customer satisfaction targets are met.
  • Ensure compliance with Council policies and procedures and operate within the highest standards of management and personal behaviour, which reflect the core values and behaviours of the organisation.
  • Promote equality of opportunity and access in service delivery and in the employment of staff through the mainstreaming of equality within the Council.

About you

It is essential that applicants have a minimum of:

QUALIFICATIONS

– A third level qualification (for example, an HNC, HND, NVQ Level 4, Degree) or equivalent, in a recognised planning qualification, e.g. Planning, Environmental Science, Geography, Architecture, Urban Regeneration

– Current membership or be eligible for membership of the Royal Town Planning or equivalent body for example the Irish Planning Institute or RICS (Planning & Development).

EXPERIENCE

– A minimum of two years’ post qualification experience working in a Planning Environment.
