Painter – £15.33 per hour

Job Purpose:

To carry out a full range of painting and decorating work across council properties—working independently or as part of a team.

Key Duties:

• Prepare and paint surfaces, apply finishes, and hang wallcoverings.

• Erect and dismantle scaffolding and equipment safely.

• Use and maintain all tools and materials properly.

• ✅ Follow all health and safety regulations and council policies.

• Complete planned and reactive maintenance tasks.

• Identify, order, and collect materials as needed.

• Accurately complete paperwork and time records.

• Drive council vehicles to transport tools and materials.

• Assist in training new staff, apprentices, and contractors.

• Supervise staff if required and deliver high service standards.

• ‍ Attend training and follow council HR procedures.

Workforce Terms:

• Uniform/PPE required.

• Use of swipe card and bonus schemes.

• Must work flexible hours and may need to use own vehicle.

• Paid fortnightly via BACS.

Essential Criteria:

✅ NVQ Level II in Painting and Decorating (or equivalent).
✅ Full, current driving licence or access to transport*.
✅ At least 1 year’s experience in:

• Surface preparation.

• Erecting/dismantling equipment safely.

• Painting and decorating in building maintenance.

Shortlisting (if needed):

• 2+ years’ experience in all listed areas.
