Salary: £12.43 per hour
Hours: 28 hours per week (worked flexibly across 5 days)

MAIN FUNCTION OF JOB
In partnership with the Service Manager, your role is to maintain the home and grounds, ensuring all areas are free from hazards and all equipment and systems are safe and in full working order. Working in compliance with health and safety standards and within the Christian ethos of Aaron House.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Council for Social Witness (Disability Services) is part of the work and witness of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland and its aim is to provide care for residents /service users in a specifically Christian ethos and environment, placing great emphasis on offering spiritual support and encouragement to residents, as well as physical care.
Aaron House is registered with the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority to provide both residential and respite care for up to 16 residents who have a learning disability; and may have a physical disability and/or a sensory impairment
The service operates a No Smoking Policy.

About The Role
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Ensuring regular test and checks are carried out and recorded, including boiler function checks, fire alarm systems activation, generator and water temperature tests
Checking the maintenance book daily and carry out all repairs etc as necessary
Performing preventative maintenance.
Complying with all aspects of Health & Safety at Work Act (e.g. COSHH)
Attending all mandatory training applicable to role
Ensuring that safety and cleanliness within the Home and grounds is to the satisfaction of the Environmental Health, Fire and Safety at Work regulations
Ensuring the exterior of the building and grounds are maintained to a safe and good standard
Advising the Service Manager on any potential maintenance problems, e.g. heating systems, refrigeration, electrics, gas, and faulty equipment
Handling basic repairs and maintenance such as replacing light bulbs, repairing broken locks, filling gaps on walls etc.
Making sure tools and equipment are maintained and stored safely
Keeping the gardens well maintained, cutting grass, digging borders, weeding, hedge cutting
Decorating vacated rooms as requested.
Moving furniture as required
Collaborating with workers and other professionals during renovations or repairs
Coordinating and controlling refurbishments with minimum disturbance to our residents and staff.
Reporting to a facilities or maintenance manager for issues
Being the first port of call for staff when repairs are required and assisting with the induction of staff, e.g. operation of emergency exits, fire points and evacuation procedures
Out of Hours Call outs if required: giving advice over the telephone and/or being prepared to be called out to the Home in emergencies when off duty.
Providing cover for other homes in your area

Required Criteria
- Understanding of requirements to meet regulatory requirements for the buildings, environment and equipment
- Well organised with experience in the management of maintenance, compliance and health and safety records
- Proven maintenance experience, including performance of routine mainteance
- Confident in the monitoring and maintaining all compliance related checks and recording outcomes
- Willing to undertake appropriate training as required
- Be willing to work additional hours to fulfill the requirements of the Home
- Must be willing to behave in a manner which respects the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland
Desired Criteria
- Have a good understanding of Health and Safety processes and procedures within a residential development
- Experience at resolving maintenance issues and will have the ability to priortise a variety of maintenance related tasks within the Care home
- Understand and have empathy with older people
- Ability to work with care home IT technologies
- Able to demonstrate an ability to prioritise tasks and communicate effectively at all levels
