Job Summary

Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for Mechanical Design Engineer (Inside IR35) on a 6 Month Contract Length based in Lisburn.

Role Summary

Responsible for providing E-design support and/or leadership for modality components and subsystems. Leads design visualization efforts with 3D CAD models and essential component and assembly details to explore multiple design options. Develops innovative designs to meet all requirements for performance, reliability, cost and manufacturability. Develops engineering design concepts for components and electromechanical assemblies for size, precision, reliability and cost. Develops and maintains mechanical subsystem quality and engineering project funnel. Validates product sub-system reliability performance. Conducts analysis of installed base and new product reliability. May lead quality engineering projects that provide imaginative solutions to engineering and customer issues. Main responsibilities: Mechanical design of Power electronic converter modules for HVDC, Mechanical design of support structures, working with suppliers, Integration with other engineering departments, reviewing mechanical designs, write technical specifications and other documents for proving the relevant design, specifying design materials, approving drawings and design documentation, Reviewing Seismic and FEA analysis, technical discussion with suppliers.

We seek an enquiring mind, desire to learn new skills and a broad understanding of engineering fundamentals plus the ability to lead, guide and motivate diverse internal and 3rd party engineering teams.

Short term site work may be required to support the installation and commissioning of the products developed by the department. Proven product mechanical design, Sound understanding of material properties, including composites, Familiar with modern 3D-CAD design tools (Pro-Engineer Creo 2 or over, and Windchill PDMlink 4 or over), Detail manufacturing drawings and drawing templates, Ability to interact with other engineering disciplines, Ability to understand, comment and review different FEA analysis, Ability to perform some basic calculations (mechanical calculus, thermal calculus, hydraulic calculus).

Advantageous: Mechanical design of high-voltage electrical equipment such as transformers, generators or switchgear, Mechanical design of power electronic converters such as motor drives, Finite Element Analysis (mechanical or thermal), ideally with Pro-Mechanica or Ansys, Structural or Seismic analysis, Heat transfer engineer.

Specific Abilities: Able to work to deadlines, Good technical communication (verbal and written), Independent and team worker (Pro-Active), Precise documentation.

Requirements

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5 to 10 years of experience or a Master’s degree with 1 to 5 years of experience, proven experience of the industrial product mechanical design, A sound understanding of the application and behaviour of materials, including composites, is essential. Candidates should be familiar with modern 3D-CAD tools (Pro-Engineer, Creo 2 or over, and Windchill PDMlink 4 or over) and demonstrate an ability to think innovatively and apply engineering knowledge across different disciplines
