As a Maintenance apprentice, you will gain hands-on experience and formal training in either mechanical or electrical engineering (depending on your pathway). Under the guidance of experienced engineers and technicians, you will develop the practical skills, knowledge, and behaviours required to support the design, installation, maintenance, and improvement of engineering systems and equipment across the organisation.
Throughout the apprenticeship you will receive day release to attend college whilst working towards your level 3 qualification. By gaining knowledge and training within different aspects of the role you will work your way up to become a skilled maintenance representative. You will be reviewed regularly throughout your apprenticeship with product and skills training and one-to-one mentoring from one of our experienced Maintenance Fitters.
This exciting new opportunity to launch your career in maintenance in the manufacturing sector and to develop your skills is part of Saint-Gobain Exterior Solutions (SGES) which is the new business unit for Kilwaughter and Weber. This is a full-time permanent role based in Larne.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist in the maintenance, repair, and testing of mechanical or electrical systems.
* Support engineers with installations, diagnostics, and fault finding.
* Learn to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and schematics.
* Use hand tools, power tools, and specialist equipment under supervision.
* Participate in project work, including system upgrades and performance improvements.
* Follow health, safety, and environmental regulations at all times.
* Record and report tasks completed, problems encountered, and solutions applied.
* Attend college or training provider sessions as part of the apprenticeship programme.
* Complete all coursework and assessments in line with apprenticeship standards.

What we need:
Previous maintenance experience isn’t essential to us; however, we are interested in a friendly and enthusiastic individual who is eager to learn and develop their skills within the area of maintenance. Other skills that are desirable to us include;
* Good planning and organisational skills
* Excellent attention to detail
* A keen interest in engineering and problem-solving.
* Computer literate with all of Microsoft Office packages
* Strong interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills
* Willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
* Punctual, reliable, and committed to completing the apprenticeship.
Desirable:
* Previous hands-on experience (e.g., through a school project or hobby).
* Knowledge of basic tools or workshop equipment.
* A full UK driving license (depending on location or travel requirements).
