Job Summary

Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Fitter to join our dynamic team, to maintain, repair, and ensure the efficient operation of all mechanical equipment and machinery used in the production of pallets. The fitter plays a key role in minimizing downtime and ensuring that plant equipment runs safely and efficiently.

Duties

  • Carry out preventative and reactive maintenance on plant machinery, including saws, conveyors, nail guns, pallet assembly lines, and hydraulic systems.
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and perform timely repairs to minimize production downtime.
  • Install new machinery and mechanical systems, including alignment, calibration, and testing.
  • Perform routine inspections of mechanical systems to identify issues before they become problems.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and service reports.
  • Work closely with the production team to schedule maintenance activities during non-peak hours.
  • Comply with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Ensure tools and workshop equipment are maintained in good working order.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize equipment efficiency.
  • Assist in sourcing spare parts and liaising with suppliers as needed.
  • Support other team members and assist in training apprentices or new staff when required.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Fitting, or similar discipline.
  • Proven experience with machine maintenance in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic welding.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and machine manuals.
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexible approach to working hours, including occasional weekend or shift work if required.
  • Forklift license (desirable).

Pay: £32,000.00-£36,000.00 per year
