Our client is a well-established and highly regarded Northern Ireland law firm, recognised for its expertise in insurance, defence litigation, and professional negligence. The firm is known for representing leading insurers, self-insureds, and commercial organisations across both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, providing strategic and commercially focused legal advice.

The firm is seeking to appoint a Litigation Solicitor (2-7 years’ PQE) to join its Defence Litigation team in Belfast. This is an excellent opportunity for a solicitor seeking to develop their career within a respected and busy department handling a diverse range of complex litigation matters.

The Role
The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload of defence litigation and insurance matters, acting on behalf of insurer and insured clients across both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

The position offers exposure to challenging and high-value cases, excellent client contact, and opportunities for professional growth within a supportive and collegiate team environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a personal caseload of defence litigation matters through all stages of the litigation process.
• Provide clear, pragmatic, and commercially sound legal advice to insurer and insured clients.
• Draft pleadings, advices, and legal correspondence to a high professional standard.
• Conduct negotiations, mediations, and settlement discussions where appropriate.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, clients, and counsel to achieve effective and timely outcomes.
• Contribute to the team’s ongoing client service excellence and business development initiatives.

Candidate Requirements

Essential:

• Qualified solicitor with 2-7 years’ post-qualification experience in defence litigation, insurance law, or related areas.
• Current practising certificates in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
• Strong technical knowledge of litigation procedures and principles.
• Excellent drafting, analytical, and communication skills.
• Proven ability to manage competing priorities and maintain attention to detail.
• Professional, client-focused approach with strong interpersonal skills.

Desirable:

• Experience in professional negligence defence and/or insurance policy disputes.
• Exposure to insurer-led or cross-border defence litigation.
• Experience mentoring junior team members (for those at the higher end of the PQE range).
