Job Summary

Job Title Lecturer in Essential Skills Numeracy and GCSE Mathematics x2 Reference S73/25 Date of JD May 2025 Salary £30,000 – £39,495 per annum (plus £3,067 Threshold and £1,596 Deane Payment if applicable) Directorate Curriculum and Information Services Unit School of Arts and Sport Reports to Head of School Location Campus to be confirmed. The post holder must be available to work at any College site as required. Total Hours of Work 1 FTE. 1440 annualised hours (up to 828 hours for student contact time; remainder for associated duties). A flexible approach, including evening work, is expected. Job Purpose To become a member of the teaching team in current courses of study and assist with future developments. Main Duties and Responsibilities Plan, deliver, and assess GCSE Mathematics and Essential Skills Numeracy courses. Fulfil the role of class tutor with administrative and pastoral responsibilities. Coordinate the teaching and assessment of relevant programmes, liaising with other College staff as needed. Develop ILT resources to support teaching and learning, promoting library and resource centre use. Complete, review, and evaluate provision quality in line with IQ: RS and awarding body requirements. Maintain and develop links with stakeholders, schools, colleges, and universities to promote the subject areas. Participate in staff training and development to enhance professional competence. Support and participate in marketing, recruitment, induction, and other relevant events. Coordinate programmes of study. Participate in or lead subject and school team meetings and others as required. Complete all administrative tasks associated with the role. Contribute to outcomes required by the Training Organisation for funding. Perform any other duties as required by the Head or Deputy Head of School, including work across all College campuses. Budget holders must manage resources to meet budget and improvement targets. Participation in training and development is expected. A waiting list may be created from this post for future similar appointments within six months, possibly at any campus. Selection Criteria Essential Criteria Hold GCSE English (Grade A-C) or Essential Skills Level 2+ in Communication; and GCSE Maths (Grade A-C) or Essential Skills Level 2+ in Numeracy or NICATS Access Maths Modules Hold a degree with at least 50% mathematics content (For existing Essential Skills Lecturers/Tutors meeting pre-August 2012 criteria, please provide qualification details) Experience delivering/tutoring Essential Skills Numeracy or GCSE Mathematics Excellent administrative, planning, and organisational skills* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)* *Criteria 4-5 will be assessed at interview only Desirable Criteria Experience teaching Essential Skills Literacy or ICT Recognised teaching qualification Minimum criteria may be enhanced at the discretion of the Selection Panel.
