SALARY: dependant on experience.
MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
This role will impact on the success of the company through the effective management of the laboratory function and the timely delivery of a high performance, total quality service to ensure ongoing customer satisfaction.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The role will ensure:-
- The laboratory implements and complies with all Company, legislative and regulatory requirements in relation to: UKAS ISO17025; COSHH; UFAS, Health & Safety & Feed Hygiene & company policies & procedures.
- Personal training and development needs are identified with Manager and all relevant training is attended.
- Management of projects as required.
- Effective management & support of laboratory staff, including the recruitment, induction, company training & development, appraisal and evaluation processes, to ensure sufficient skills are available to meet the laboratory workload.
- Monitoring and communicating performance against departmental KPIs
- Maintenance and advancement of the scope of the Companys ISO17025 accreditation and approval, including maintenance and scheduled calibration of laboratory equipment, development and implementation of existing and new methods of analysis to include comprehensive Standard Operating procedures, management and auditing of validation processes & Laboratory practices against the requirements of the standard.
- Timely support and active pursuit of business growth & development activities including benchmarking to assess market conditions and potential areas for growth.
- Ensuring customer satisfaction in areas such as; on time delivery of test results and reports to meet customer requirements, customer support and advice as required and the measurement of customer satisfaction and implementation of continuous improvement activities.
- Management of testing in accordance with SOPs within the laboratory to meet internal and external customer requirements, including the management and monitoring of the laboratory SAMS system.
- Accurate and timely production of monthly laboratory performance analysis reports
- Deputising the Technical Manager, or laboratory staff duties when necessary
- Budgets and costs are analysed and reviewed to maximise output and the purchasing of resources on a timely basis to support requirements
- All housekeeping and laboratory waste disposal activities are effectively managed to ensure the safety of personnel and the environment in line with company policies and procedures.
- Management and development of the Food Fortress programme with respect to testing schedule development, sample requests, compositing, testing and reporting results to the scheme owner, and the timely update of data for the Food Fortress website.
- All Health & safety procedures are adhered to in the laboratory and mill
- Any other duties are carried out as appropriate

2. Education & Knowledge
Essential:

The candidate should hold a third-level qualification, or equivalent, in Chemistry, Food Technology or Agricultural Science
Desirable:

Knowledge of UKAS testing standards

Knowledge of risk assessments

Holds an ECDL qualification or equivalent

Knowledge of microbial analysis
3. Experience
Essential:
-
At least 2 years supervisory experience in a laboratory environment

Experience in test methods and nutritional analysis
-
Competent in the use of Windows-based computer packages
Desirable:
-
Experience in a continuous improvement environment
-
Experience in the use of LIMS
-
Experience in managing budgets and/or business units
-
Experience of auditing against the Standard

The role may require participation in client visits and some travel through the UK / EU
