Role Overview

We are looking for a proactive Hygiene Manager to lead hygiene and facilities operations across all sites, ensuring compliance, safety, and operational excellence. This role is critical to maintaining food safety, audit readiness, and operational efficiency.

Member of the Technical Team reporting to the Head of Technical.

Key Responsibilities

Hygiene Operations

  • Lead and develop the hygiene team to deliver consistent, high-quality standards.
  • Plan, oversee, and verify cleaning activities across production areas, equipment, and facilities.
  • Maintain hygiene records, SOPs, and cleaning schedules to keep the site audit ready.
  • Coordinate all scheduled and unscheduled hygiene activities.
  • Manage chemical stock levels and usage to ensure availability and compliance.
  • Support the Listeria Management Plan and drive continuous improvement.
  • Investigate post-clean micro failures and implement long-term corrective actions.
  • Ensure all hygiene staff are trained, refreshed, and competent in their roles.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to meet hygiene and operational needs. Attend regular department meetings to discuss performance / projects.
  • Promoting a culture of continuous improvement to ensure performance is constantly challenged and improved.

Facilities Management

  • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly facilities checks across all departments and equipment.
  • Control key contracts; including chemical supply, laundry, consumables, and PPE.
  • Arrange external contractors for facility upgrades or maintenance tasks.
  • Lead capital expenditure projects, ensuring planning, resourcing, and ROI delivery.
  • Promote a culture of safe working practices through personal leadership and example.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Report any issues that may compromise food safety or quality to the Technical Manager.
  • Monitor hygiene KPIs and introduce improvements to optimise processes and labour efficiency.
  • Ensure all cleaning activities are documented and traceable.
  • Address health and safety findings from monthly audits.
  • Maintain compliance with HACCP, GMP, and food safety legislation.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Proven experience in hygiene management within the food industry – minimum of 2 years.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations related to hygiene practices.
  • Excellent organisational skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively train staff and report findings.
  • Experience with working to customer standards in the food industry.
  • Experience in managing complex facility development and capital projects.
  • Budget control and contractor management experience.
  • Understanding of HACCP, GMP, and food safety standards.
