ROLE TITLE: Group Head of Finance

REPORTING LINE MANAGER: The Group Head of Finance will report directly to the eVessel Managing Director, with dotted line to CFO.

DEPARTMENTAL OVERVIEW:
The Finance Department is responsible for the overall control and management of all financial aspects of the Company and its strategic objectives using ERP, maximising cost control and operational efficiencies within the Company’s risk profile, providing strategic and financial management and reporting, to ensure that the Company is able to meet its financial targets and projected commitments.

THE ROLE:

The Group Head of Finance will manage the Finance function across the Group, ensuring robust financial management, compliance, and strategic insight to support sustainable growth. This role oversees the team responsible for ensuring departmental goals are achieved, including accurate and timely transactional finance, HMRC compliance, internal financial reporting, external financial reporting to bodies such as grant funders, financial budgets and forecasts, ERP projects and improvements, and the delivery of business information to support strategic and departmental requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, manage, and develop the Finance team to deliver a high-performing, value-adding function.
  • Ensure strong collaboration across departments and build financial capability across the organisation.
  • Contribute to shaping a culture that reflects ATL Values and Guiding Principles and enables the company to achieve its goals.

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Produce and deliver timely and accurate monthly financial information to include, management accounts and KPIs.
  • Manage the statutory audit process and oversee the preparation of statutory accounts for all entities, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Comply and ensure adherence to HMRC requirements.

Treasury, Payroll & Operations

  • Oversee Reporting and KPIs re Financial, Operations and Commercial (department/business units) and Projects for all Group Entities.
  • Oversee treasury and cash flow activities including systems to support timely and accurate forecasting and analysis.
  • Oversee global payroll operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Oversee transactional finance activities (AP, AR, cash management) with robust controls and efficiency.

Business Performance & Insight

  • Oversee financial, commercial, operational, and project reporting for all entities to provide insight that drives business performance.
  • Oversee the setup of Margin Reporting and implementation of automated systems to calculate margins.
  • Oversee Product Price List implementation and on-going review in line with business margin targets.
  • Ensure compliance with ATL Policies and procedures.

Strategic Partnership & Governance

  • Attend team and 1-1 meetings and fulfil reporting requirements as required by ATL.
  • Support ExComm, Department Directors and Project Leadership to support achievement of strategic and operational goals.
  • Support the CFO in shaping financial policies, procedures, and governance frameworks.
  • Identify and champion continuous improvement to the companywide ERP enhancing automation and reporting.
  • Build good working relationships across ATL.

KNOWLEDGE AND SPECIALIST SKILLS:

Education: Qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA with hands on.

Experience:

  1. Minimum 4 years industry experience.
  2. Experience at Financial Controller level.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail coupled with a strategic view of the objectives of the position.
  • Experienced in ERP for (preferably) manufacturing/R&D companies.
  • Strong working knowledge of excel.

Communication skills:

  • Demonstrable ability of capturing complex requirements.
  • Good report writing skills – clear, concise, and well structured.
  • Articulate written, visual, and verbal communicator.
  • Excellent listening, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Teamworking:

  • Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and resolve.
  • Ability to relate well to others, and build co-operative and collaborative working relationships, both internally and externally.
  • Genuine ability to act as a team player and motivate a team.

Organising and Time Management:

  • Results orientated with ability to plan and deliver against project deadlines.
  • Ability to coordinate with other departments and flag issues.
  • Flexibility to pivot direction quickly to meet deadlines whilst focusing on multiple deliverables simultaneously.
  • Dedication to completing tasks in high quality and timely manner with an ability to predict complex project timelines.
  • A focus on ‘delivery’ to an agreed schedule.
  • Ability to complete a package of work under guidance and work independently.
