Discrimination & Advice Officer
Location: Belfast
 Salary: £15.97 per hour
 Contract: Temporary until 31st March 2026
 Working Arrangement: Office-based (37 hours per week)
About the Role
VANRATH are delighted to be partnering with a leading public body to recruit a Discrimination & Advice Officer to join their Advice and Compliance Division. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a background in law, advisory work, or complaint handling to play a key role in promoting equality and addressing discrimination issues across Northern Ireland.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advice and assistance to individuals who believe they have experienced discrimination, in line with equality legislation.
- Assess and manage complaints received under various equality laws and codes of practice.
- Conduct detailed case assessments, gather relevant information and documentation, and liaise with complainants, employers, and service providers.
- Draft written correspondence and prepare reports or summaries to support decision-making processes.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records using internal systems.
- Support the wider team in promoting awareness of equality legislation and good practice.
The Ideal Candidate
- A Law degree (or equivalent) is highly desirable.
- Experience in an advisory, casework, or complaint-handling role, ideally within a public body, legal, or community sector environment.
- Strong understanding of equality or employment law (training will be provided where required).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deal sensitively and professionally with the public.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail when managing case files and documentation.
