As the business continues to succeed, they now require an experienced Cost Accountant that can going the operations / finance team.
Your new role
We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Costing Accountant to take ownership of production and project cost management across the business. This role will be central to supporting strategic decision-making by delivering accurate cost estimates, analysing project performance, and contributing to tender pricing. The successful candidate will work closely with the Finance, Operations, and Sales teams to ensure commercial accuracy and project profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for new projects and tender submissions.
Analyse and monitor actual project and production costs against budgets and forecasts.
Collaborate with project managers and engineers to validate costing inputs and resource allocations.
Maintain and update the costing database, including labour, materials, subcontractor rates, and overheads.
Develop and manage standard costing models for products and services.
Support pricing strategy by providing financial input into commercial bids and contract reviews.
Produce cost performance reports and variance analysis for ongoing and completed projects.
Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend process improvements.
Assist in month-end reporting, WIP reviews, and project profitability analysis.
Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting standards, and customer contractual requirements.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Part-qualified or fully qualified (CIMA/ACCA/ACA) or equivalent experience in cost accounting or management accounting.
  • Proven experience in a project-based or manufacturing environment, ideally within engineering or industrial services.
  • Strong Excel and financial modelling skills.
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical capability.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with tender processes, bid support, or capital project costing.
  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment, engineering services, or utilities sectors.
  • Familiarity with ERP/accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero, or similar).
