One of the UK’s most inspiring and best-known faith-based organisations is looking a spiritual leader and an active member of their local Church, who has the necessary skills, gifts, knowledge, and experience of representing The Salvation Army and fully understands and respects the values, vision, and mission priorities.
As a Chaplain you are required to uphold the principles of the sending body (The Salvation Army), and its mission through providing a Christian presence, spiritual leadership, guidance and pastoral care to those within your receiving body, establishment or community.
Within this role you will;
- Be a visibly accessible representative of The Salvation Army and its identity, culture, ethos and associate values.
- Ensure regular and meaningful Christian worship takes place that is appropriate and tailored to those within the receiving body, including the celebration of Christian festivals, and to provide opportunities for Christian discovery/discipleship
- Assess and address the cultural, religious and spiritual needs of all including those of other faiths and seek to build cross-community relationships to this end. To provide guidance on multi-faith issues, ensuring that the spiritual wellbeing of all is recognised and supported.
- Support the positive working relationships with the wider Salvation Army, other faith organisations and churches, statutory and NGO agencies, local schools and the local council where relevant.
- Be personally accountable for ensuring that you work to the employed spiritual leader ‘Code of Practice’ at all times.
- Actively engage with and fulfil all learning and development requirements identified by the organisation as essential to the successful performance of a Chaplain.
- Actively engage with and fulfil all assessment programmes (including psychological) required to be completed by employed spiritual leaders.
To succeed in this role you will be able to demonstrate:
- A vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ, actively practising and demonstrably living a Christian life (A,I)
- Strong successful experience of providing spiritual leadership, guidance and pastoral support, leading gathered worship, and supporting people to explore their Christian faith (A,I)
- Strong Christian theological and bible knowledge with the ability to apply that in a practical, engaging and effective way to facilitate the teachings of our Christian faith to service users and colleagues (A,I)
- Demonstrable excellent communication (written, verbal, and presentational) and interpersonal skills, with the proven ability to convey information effectively to a wide range of audiences and develop strong, successful, and collaborative working relationships (A,I)
- Strong practical knowledge and experience of relevant compliance requirements related to areas including health and safety, safeguarding, data protection, equality and diversity (A,I)
This role has an Occupational Requirement (OR) to be an active, practising and committed Christian, with strong theological & biblical knowledge, and the ability to support people develop and explore their Christian faith. In addition, you will be in sympathy with the doctrines of, and supportive of, the purposes and the aims and objectives of The Salvation Army.
