I am working with a respected and forward-thinking aerospace business that is seeking a Category Buyer – Metallics-to join their procurement team. This role focuses on managing key supplier relationships and supporting strategic sourcing activities for machined and sheet metal components. Your new role
As Category Buyer, you’ll be responsible for sourcing critical metallic components, supporting outsourcing decisions, and ensuring supplier performance aligns with business needs. You’ll work closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to deliver value across the supply chain. Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing procurement activities for machined and fabricated metal parts
- Supporting the development of sourcing strategies and supplier selection processes
- Building and maintaining strong supplier relationships in the metallics category
- Contributing to cost-saving initiatives and continuous improvement efforts
- Assisting with Make vs Buy analysis and internal manufacturing decisions
- Running tenders, negotiating pricing, and managing contract terms
- Monitoring supplier performance and addressing delivery or quality issues
- Collaborating with engineering and planning teams to ensure component availability
- Staying informed on market trends and supply risks within the metals sector
What you’ll need to succeed
- Solid understanding of machining, sheet metal fabrication, and related supply markets
- Experience in procurement, sourcing, or supply chain roles within manufacturing
- Strong negotiation and supplier management skills
- Familiarity with ERP systems and Microsoft Office tools
- A third-level qualification or equivalent experience
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and manufacturing requirements
- Commercial awareness and a proactive approach to problem-solving
