Purpose of the Position

To assist and support service users in their homes so they can maintain their quality of life within their own home.

Must hold UK driver’s license and access to own car, Car business insurance required

Main Duties: The purpose of this Job description is to define the responsibilities and dimensions for this role.

The main duties of attending a Service User’s home are as follows:

To visit the designated service user at their home address as directed by our management team.

To assist the service user to get in or out of bed, chairs etc.

Assist the service user in turning to relief pressure areas.

To assist the service user with toileting:

To access toileting facilities.

Disposal of incontinence materials. (Using agreed health and safety procedures)

Emptying commodes.

To assist the service user with personal hygiene and personal care:

Washing /bathing/bed bathing/showering

Shaving

Continence management /stoma care/catheter care etc

Personal appearance e.g. Hair brushing shaving.

To assist the service user in dressing/undressing.

Assist with care aids and personal equipment:

Glasses

Dentures

Prosthetics

Hearing aids etc

Assist service users with feeding as required stated in their care plan.

Assist/support with duties within their household:

House cleaning/ washing dishes.

Shopping (only if stated in their care plan)

Laundry/ironing

Bed making.

Other duties stated in their care plan.

Where directed maintain cleanliness in the service users home to meet with the health and safety requirements.

Where directed to prepare or heat meals provided.

To ensure the service users are provided with:

Drinks (as appropriate)

Light snacks/refreshments

Assist, Administrate, and Prompt service users with medication as stated in the service user’s care plan. (in line with policy and procedure)

Operate sources of heat within the service user’s home, e.g., oil/gas heating facilities, light fires, etc

To encourage the service user to participate in daily living activities, to maximise their skills and abilities according to their capabilities

Develop a professional relationship with the service users through talking and listening

To carry all tasks appropriately with respect, irrespective of their circumstances and or disability, maintaining the services for users:

Dignity

Privacy

Confidentiality

To call the appropriate assistance in an emergency (all actions should be to support the service user as specified in their care plan)

Be observant for signs of anxiety and distress:

Any changes in the service user’s physical and or mental health.

Safety of the service users environment.

These are to be reported to Management as a matter of urgency.

3.Assist your colleagues in ways of mentoring and training as or when deemed necessary.

4.Uphold a professional understanding and competence.

5.To complete the initial induction

Essential criteria

Personal Attributes:

To be caring and compassionate towards service users, their families, and or their Representative.

Understand the importance of confidentiality.

Good hygiene practice, including personal hygiene and smart appearance.

Good stamina and level of fitness to meet the physical demands of the job.

Excellent time keeping

Be self-motivated and keen to learn.

Advise service users of the complaints procedures as and when required.

Demonstrate good working relations with all personnel involved with Helping Hands. (GP, Social workers, Community nurses etc)

Provide adequate support in liaising with all other professionals or agencies.

To be able to follow the service user’s care plan and have the ability to maintain, record accurate written information.

Requirements

  • Have own travel arrangements to attend service users homes.
  • Obtain an Enhanced disclosure certificate; a fee of £32 is required.
  • Register with NISCC, and a fee of £30 is to be paid.
  • Speak fluent English.
  • A right to work in the UK.
  • Have a personal mobile to be able to download the relevant work app.
  • Up to 20 hours of shadowing will be provided if required.
  • Full clean UK driving license and access to own car

Knowledge and understanding:

  1. General understanding of the needs of the service users.
  2. Respect our service users privacy and dignity.
  3. Have a good understanding of the importance of giving the best possible care to our service users.
  4. Have a good Understanding of the importance of the GDPR legislation.

Desirable skills:

Car insurance that includes business insurance.

Understand the regulations and legislation within the domiciliary care sector and Knowledge of how to recognise abuse and safeguarding procedures.

NVQ level 2 in care or a relevant care/and or health qualification.

Previous experience as a care worker or as an unpaid worker.

Wage (Paid Monthly)

£13.00-£14.00 per hour driver

This will be discussed at the interview/offer of employment stage

You will be entitled to 28 paid days per calendar year. (5 Full days)

(Pro rata for part-time staff)

Training

Helping Hands will provide free induction training and encourage staff to further their qualifications.

Uniform

You will be entitled to two free uniforms in one year
