We are pleased to be working with a local government organisation in their search for an Accountant.
This role supports Accounting Managers in ensuring effective financial management, compliance, and team development across the organisation. You will contribute to accurate financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and policy implementation, while providing guidance to stakeholders and supporting strategic decision-making.
The Role
- Financial Reporting & Management: Prepare timely and accurate financial reports, including budgets, management accounts, and reconciliations, in line with internal policies and regulations.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Support the creation and monitoring of annual budgets, provide variance analysis, and assist with long-term financial planning in alignment with the organisations strategy.
- Capital, Treasury & Grant Oversight: Manage capital accounting (assets, depreciation), oversee treasury operations (cash flow, investments), and ensure proper grant income tracking and compliance.
- Transaction Processing: Supervise accounts receivable and payable functions, ensuring timely invoicing, payments, and reconciliations.
- Compliance & Audit: Ensure adherence to financial regulations, manage audit processes, and handle statutory compliance tasks like VAT returns.
- Strategic Financial Support: Deliver financial analysis, contribute to policy development, collaborate with stakeholders, and support strategic initiatives.
- Leadership & Development: Mentor finance staff, promote continuous improvement, uphold confidentiality and GDPR, and perform other duties aligned with the role.
The Person
As the successful candidate you will have the following background and experience:
Essential:
- A professional accountancy qualification.
- Experience in financial management, accounting or auditing with specialised expertise in capital accounting OR treasury management OR management accounting OR financial accounting.
- Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems and strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
