Job Summary

Are you looking to improve Accessibility and Inclusion in the County Antrim area?

We’re recruiting on behalf of a large public sector team for an Accessibility and Inclusion Officer.

The Accessibility and Inclusion Officer is responsible for leading the design, implementation and continuous development of a policy framework that will ensure the organisation meets its statutory duties under equality and disability legislation. The officer will also be responsible for promoting a culture of accessibility and inclusivity across all services within the organisation.

The role:

  • Lead the development, implementation and monitoring of the organisation’s Equality Scheme, Equality Action Plan, Disability Action Plan and related statutory obligations, ensuring alignment with organisational strategy.

  • Liaise with statutory bodies, representative organisations and community groups to promote equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility, while fostering effective partnerships.

  • Design, deliver and evaluate training programmes for staff and Members to embed a culture of equality, diversity and accessibility, and provide expert advice across all service areas.

  • Oversee the production and review of Equality Impact Assessments, Disability Impact Assessments and accessibility audits, including consultations and the preparation of reports with recommendations.

  • Manage and promote initiatives, projects and promotional plans that advance inclusion, such as diversity accreditations, disability-friendly services, accessible facilities and language policies.

  • Monitor, evaluate and report on the organisation’s progress towards equality and diversity objectives, identifying funding opportunities and contributing to benchmarking and best practice research.

  • Represent the organisation at meetings, working groups and external events, manage related budgets, ensure compliance with relevant policies and legislation, and uphold exceptional standards of customer service.

The Person

As the successful candidate you will have the following background and experience:

  • Previous experience in Inclusion and Accessibility projects.
  • Strong stakholder engagement skills.
  • Hold a current drivers license.
