Parks Operative & Park Warden – Belfast City Council
Location: Various sites across Belfast (including Ormeau Park and Prince Regent Road)
Salary: £14.35-£15.82 per hour
About the Opportunities
Belfast City Council is recruiting Parks Operatives and Park Wardens to join the City and Neighbourhood Services Department.
Parks Operative – Key Duties
- Drive and operate council vehicles, including vans, tractors, and ride-on mowers.
- Carry out grass cutting, hedge trimming, pruning, planting, and litter removal.
- Use and maintain powered tools and light machinery safely.
- Assist with playground inspections, park furniture maintenance, and events.
- Work with community and volunteer groups to support local projects.
Essential Requirements:
- Full current C1+E driving licence (allowing you to drive with a trailer).
- At least 1 year’s experience in:
- Gardening/horticultural work (planting, grass cutting, hedge trimming, litter removal).
- Safe use of powered hand tools and equipment.
- Dealing with members of the public in a face-to-face setting.
Park Warden – Key Duties
- Patrol parks, cemeteries, and open spaces to ensure public safety and compliance with by-laws.
- Enforce dog control orders, litter codes, and alcohol restrictions.
- Engage with park users, schools, and community groups to promote positive use of facilities.
- Lock/unlock park buildings and respond to incidents such as vandalism or antisocial behaviour.
- Prepare incident and inspection reports and liaise with PSNI and council teams when needed.
Essential Requirements:
- Full current driving licence valid in Northern Ireland (or access to transport).
- At least 1 year’s experience in each of the following:
- Working directly with the public.
- Working in a security role (patrols, facility checks, liaising with PSNI).
- Working in an enforcement or legislative role (dog control, litter enforcement, etc.).
Working Hours
- Parks Operative: Monday-Thursday 7:30am-3:30pm, Friday 7:30am-3:00pm
- Park Warden: Monday-Thursday 8:30am-5:00pm, Friday 8:30am-4:30pm
