Job Opportunity: Chicken Sexer – Carn Hatchery, Craigavon

This is a specialised position requiring precision, responsibility, and a strong focus on hygiene and safety.
Role Overview
As a Chicken Sexer, you will be responsible for accurately determining the sex of day-old chicks using the vent sexing method. Your work will directly support our breeding programmes and contribute to the success of our hatchery operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Vent Sexing of Chickens
- Achieve and maintain a sexing accuracy rate of 98% or higher
- Ensure a consistent split of 48% parent stock and 52% by-product
2. Hygiene and Bio-Security
- Set up all equipment hygienically and in accordance with Company procedures
- Complete stool testing as per Site protocols
- Notify management of holiday plans and destinations in advance to support bio-security measures
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in poultry handling or hatchery work is desirable but not essential – full training will be provided
- Excellent attention to detail and manual dexterity
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, bio-secure environment
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety

Competencies, Knowledge and Experience Required
- Fully time-served chicken sexers in the vent sexing method.
- Previous chicken sexing experience is essential.
- Proven sexing accuracy levels are required.
- Must be literate and numerate.
- Ability to think clearly and make sound decisions.
- Strong teamworking skills.
- A positive attitude towards work and colleagues.
- Good manual dexterity is essential.
- Must be able to speak and listen in English.
- Ability to work on own initiative and willingness to learn new skills is desirable.
