About the Role
Join a public sector Port Health team as a qualified Environmental Health Officer (EHO). You’ll protect public health through inspections, investigations, and enforcement of environmental health legislation, focusing on Brexit-related port operations. This temporary role requires flexible day/night shift working.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections of premises, vessels, vehicles, land, and aircraft.
- Assess risks, complete health and safety evaluations, and enforce compliance.
- Review technical reports and provide recommendations.
- Serve notices, prepare cases, and attend public hearings as an authorised officer.
- Conduct sampling, investigations, and maintain accurate IT records.
- Deliver health education, engage with the community, and liaise with external partners.
- Lead or support departmental projects and initiatives.
- Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to colleagues and trainees.
- Participate in emergency response and out-of-hours duties.
Candidate Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Licences:
- Diploma in Environmental Health (CIEH) or equivalent recognised by the EHRB
- Full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle
Experience & Skills:
- Minimum 1–2 years’ experience as an EHO or similar public health role
- Knowledge of environmental health legislation and enforcement procedures
- Strong report writing and communication skills
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and exercise judgment in enforcement
- Teamwork, decision-making, and customer engagement skills
- Competent in IT and relevant environmental health software
