Your new role
As an Investigating Officer, you will be responsible for conducting impartial, desk-based investigations into complaints against public bodies and elected representatives. You will also support broader systemic investigations into potential maladministration or injustice within public services. This role involves managing a diverse caseload, analysing complex information, conducting interviews, and producing high-quality written reports and recommendations.Key responsibilities include:

• Investigating complaints in line with relevant legislation and internal procedures
• Communicating effectively with complainants, public bodies, and stakeholders
• Managing competing priorities and meeting performance targets
• Conducting interviews and gathering evidence
• Drafting clear, evidence-based reports and briefings
• Monitoring compliance with recommendations
• Representing the organisation at external events and maintaining professional relationships

What you’ll need to succeed

• A degree (or equivalent) with at least 2 years’ relevant experience in evidence-based analysis and reporting OR at least 4 years’ relevant experience without a degree
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills
• Ability to interpret legislation, codes, and procedural guidance
• Excellent written communication and report-writing skills
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a complex caseload
• Empathy and resilience when handling challenging conversations
• Experience conducting investigative interviews

  Desirable:

• Knowledge of investigative practices and research techniques
