Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Fitter to join our dynamic team, to maintain, repair, and ensure the efficient operation of all mechanical equipment and machinery used in the production of pallets. The fitter plays a key role in minimizing downtime and ensuring that plant equipment runs safely and efficiently.
Duties
- Carry out preventative and reactive maintenance on plant machinery, including saws, conveyors, nail guns, pallet assembly lines, and hydraulic systems.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and perform timely repairs to minimize production downtime.
- Install new machinery and mechanical systems, including alignment, calibration, and testing.
- Perform routine inspections of mechanical systems to identify issues before they become problems.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and service reports.
- Work closely with the production team to schedule maintenance activities during non-peak hours.
- Comply with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Ensure tools and workshop equipment are maintained in good working order.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize equipment efficiency.
- Assist in sourcing spare parts and liaising with suppliers as needed.
- Support other team members and assist in training apprentices or new staff when required.
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Fitting, or similar discipline.
- Proven experience with machine maintenance in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic welding.
- Ability to read technical drawings and machine manuals.
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexible approach to working hours, including occasional weekend or shift work if required.
- Forklift license (desirable).
