Assistant Accountant
We are working with a leading employer based in Newry to recruit for an Assistant Accountant to join their team. The role is for a period of maternity cover with the possibility of becoming permanent. There is an excellent salary on offer for this role.
The Assistant Accountant will be responsible for:
- Managing all financial transactions within the finance department, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with company policies
- Overseeing the completion of weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting procedures, ensuring they are carried out efficiently and effectively
- Maintaining accurate and up to date sales and purchase ledgers, reconciling accounts regularly to prevent discrepancies
- Assisting with payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of employee payment information
- Collating, posting, and reconciling month end stock figures to ensure accurate reporting
- Supporting the preparation of monthly management accounts by gathering, analysing, and verifying data
- Completing monthly balance sheet reconciliations and following up on any variances or issues promptly
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns, Intrastat reports, TSS compliance documentation, and other statutory government returns within deadlines
- Assisting with cash flow management, monitoring inflows and outflows to support financial stability
- Maintaining the cost system in Sage, ensuring all cost data is accurate and up to date
- Monitoring financial controls and implementing improvements where necessary to strengthen processes
- Liaising with external auditors during year end, providing all required documentation and support
- Collaborating with the Finance Manager, General Manager, and wider management team to provide financial insights, reports, and analysis as needed
What youll need for the Assistant Accountant role:
- 2 years experience of working in a similar role
- Excellent accounting and strong numerical skills.
- Experience of accounts reconciliations.
- Experience and a thorough working knowledge of all elements of MS Office particularly Word, Excel, and Excel formulas.
- A thorough working knowledge of the Sage accounting package.
