The role
- The main purpose of this job is to work in a slaughterhouse or meat processing plant to ensure that all meat is being produced safely and in accordance with relevant laws.
- The Meat Hygiene Inspector carries out the Post-Mortem Inspection on carcases and offal of animals that have been signed off as fit for slaughter.
- The Meat Hygiene Inspector will assist Official Veterinarians in approved establishments with purely practical tasks during Ante-Mortem Inspection and in gathering evidence of non-compliance related to welfare, hygiene, HACCP and other legal requirements.
Responsibilities
- Inspection of the hygiene procedures in slaughterhouses, cutting plants, factories and cold stores.
- Checks on animal welfare conditions.
- Post-mortem Inspection on carcases and offal.
- Checks on meat transportation conditions
- Verification of the disposal of unfit meat.
- Collection of data and report completion.
- To keep up to date on meat hygiene regulations.
Skills/Qualifications required and Requisites
- Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons OR Level 2 Certificate for Proficiency in Poultry Meat Inspection OR Level 4 Diploma for Proficiency in Meat Inspection OR
- Other qualifications recognised by the Food Standards Agency (FSA): Membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and competent delivery of Meat Inspection skills; OR an equivalent Veterinary Degree from an EU or Third Country, which under independent verification and assurance approved by the FSA, fulfils the OA training requirements; OR an equivalent qualification from a recognised (and approved by the FSA) non-EU or UK awarding body in Meat Inspection skills.
- Previous experience in the delivery of Official Controls as a Meat Hygiene Inspector.
- UK or EEA citizen, or Third-Country national with the right to work in the UK.
- In addition, Mistev Export Health Certification Ltd. is able to sponsor prospective candidates who would need a visa to live and work in Great Britain.
What we offer
- Starting salary: between £30,000-£36,000 (depending on experience).
- Bonuses and annual salary reviews on performance.
- Bank holidays allowance: 10 days.
- Holiday entitlement: 20 days on commencement of the contract. This increase occurs annually on the anniversary of the contract start date, up to a maximum of 25 days.
