Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity in Belfast, Northern Ireland for a Graduate Civil Engineer to join our Streets team as part of our wider transportation team. Our team specialises in the design and delivery of people-focused infrastructure that supports walking, wheeling, cycling, and public transport, while maintaining the safe and efficient movement of all road users.
We focus on developing practical and buildable engineering solutions that improve how people move around their communities, making best use of constrained spaces in both urban and rural settings. Our work involves consideration of pedestrian and cycle movements, traffic flows, road geometry, pavement design, traffic signs, intelligent transport systems (ITS), and traffic signal design — all with the aim of creating safer, more inclusive, and more pleasant streets.
As a graduate in our team, you’ll support a range of high-profile and meaningful projects across our transportation sector, including:
- The Active Travel Support Office, which provides programme and technical support to the Department for Infrastructure on the delivery of walking and cycling schemes across the whole of Northern Ireland;
- The Coleraine to Portstewart active travel signature project, a flagship active travel project encouraging sustainable travel in the Causeway Coast and Glens;
- Our extensive greenway programme for TII and Local Authorities across the country, including Lough Key Greenway in Roscommon, three major greenways in West Cork, the Galway to Oughterard Greenway, and five major greenways in Donegal;
- Our large scale complex urban scheme and public realm schemes for Local Authorities across the country; and
- Bus infrastructure design projects for National Transport Authority.
You’ll work as part of a multidisciplinary team, gaining hands-on experience with industry-leading tools, contributing to projects at all stages — from early feasibility through to detailed design and construction support.
