Job Overview
We are seeking an Assistant Scientific Officer in Pesticide Usage and Vector Surveillance to join the AFBI team. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute meaningfully to agricultural research and pest management efforts. The role involves conducting telephone surveys with farmers to gather data on pesticide usage and performing insect identification in laboratory settings using microscopes and identification keys.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct structured telephone interviews with farmers to collect accurate pesticide usage data
- Identify insect specimens in the lab using microscopes and established taxonomic keys
- Perform fieldwork including deployment and retrieval of insect traps across designated locations
- Drive to research sites for sample collection and study implementation
Requirements
- Essential:
- 4 GCSEs at Grade A-C / 9-4 or equivalent
- Competence in Microsoft Excel and basic database systems
- Good telephone communication skills
- Valid driving licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork
Desirable:
- Experience using microscopes for insect identification
- General laboratory experience
