Job Title: Tutor (Skills for Life and Work)
Location: 182-188 Cambrai Street, Belfast, BT13 3JH
Responsible To: SFLW Operations Manager
Objective: As a Tutor on the Skills for Life & Work programme, you will play a key role in supporting young adults to build confidence, gain Essential Skills Numeracy qualifications, and progress toward employment or further education. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of learners who may face additional barriers.
Hours:35 hours per week (Mon-Thurs 8am-4.15pm, Fri 8am-12pm. Part time hours may be considered)
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £25, 218 – £28, 310 per annum (New appointees are normally appointed on the first point of the pay scale)
Job Description:
Plan and design engaging schemes of work and lesson plans tailored to learners’ needs.
Deliver high-quality learning experiences, with a focus on Essential Skills Numeracy, to support learner progression and achievement.
Develop and maintain individual Personal Learning Plans (PLPs) to monitor progress and set meaningful goals.
Review learner progress on a monthly basis and provide constructive feedback and support.
Keep accurate and up-to-date records, following all quality assurance and reporting procedures.
Organise your time effectively to meet programme deadlines and evaluation requirements.
Support learners throughout their journey, helping to identify and address any barriers to learning or personal development.
Promote and maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment, prioritising the health and safety of all participants.
Manage digital systems and ensure resources are in place to support effective delivery of the programme.
Support learners in achieving the outcomes outlined in their Personal Training Plans.
Follow all Usel policies and procedures, ensuring best practice in all areas of your work.
Be flexible and responsive to the needs of the programme by undertaking other relevant duties as required by management.
Person Specification Essential:
1.A minimum of five GCSEs, including English and Maths at grades A*C (or equivalent qualifications),
OR Essential Skills Level 2 (or higher) in both Communication and Numeracy.
2.A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., Certificate in Teaching at Ulster University),
OR a commitment to working towards one.
3. Ability to engage and inspire learners, supporting them to achieve their full potential.
Desirable:
1. Experience in delivering Essential Skills/Vocational subjects, or a strong interest in developing this area.
2. Understanding of Internal Verification processes, particularly within Essential Skills delivery.
3. Experience working with young adults in a classroom or group learning environment, including voluntary, placement, or paid roles.
