Job Summary

Vickerstock are working in partnership with a heavy manufacturing business on the appointment of a Buyer on a full-time permanent basis. Our client truly are a local success story who had humble beginnings and now can be viewed as an industry leading business.

As the Buyer, you will be responsible for the day to day purchasing in a fast paced manufacturing environment. Reporting to the Senior Buyer, you will build new and maintaining existing supplier relationships, manage supplier quality/performance and maintain inventory levels in line with production demands.

In your new role:

  • Identify and process purchase orders in line with the ERP system.
  • Research, select, and procure quality products and materials.
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, negotiating best prices, quantities, and delivery timescales.
  • Process requisitions and update the Lead Buyer and management on order status.
  • Update inventory records, manage stock levels, and support regular stocktaking activities.
  • Arrange transportation of goods and track orders to ensure timely delivery.
  • Understand the target market and analyse trends to make informed buying decisions that support cost savings.
  • Source bespoke and production parts as required.
  • Deliver optimum value in quality and cost through supplier negotiation and re-sourcing activities.
  • Manage supplier quality and performance for a supply base of 150+ suppliers in line with ISO standards.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Establish and maintain inventory levels to meet production demand and support aftermarket stock requirements.
  • Liaise effectively with engineering, production, finance, aftermarket, and stores teams.
  • Verify invoice details and resolve queries, including pricing and quantity discrepancies.
  • Coordinate shipping and plant hire to meet installation schedules.

What you will need to succeed:

  • 2-3 years’ similar experience in a procurement role within manufacturing
  • Confident and clear communicator that is comfortable with negotiation
  • Previous ERP/MRP experience
  • Strong Excel skills
