Artemis Applied Technologies is the consulting and engineering services division of Artemis Technologies. The company offers advanced technical solutions to both internal and external clients, including design, engineering, and simulation services for the maritime, offshore energy, defence, high-performance sport, and clean technology sectors. These services aim to help organizations address complex design and engineering challenges, adopt clean propulsion technologies, and transition to more sustainable operations.

Within Artemis Applied Technologies, the Simulation department delivers projects related to real-time simulation and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). It is also responsible for the Artemis Technologies’ in-house performance prediction tool chain and motion-platform Simulator.

THE ROLE:

Artemis Applied Technologies develop and operate several simulators at our facility in Belfast. The simulators are used by our clients for a wide variety of use cases from vessel concept design and on-board system development to crew training. The Simulator Operations Engineer will take the lead on the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the simulators. The remit will also support running of safe simulator sessions for internal personnel and external clients. The candidate shall have a strong technical and practical background.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Lead the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the Artemis Technologies simulators.
  • Running safe simulator sessions for internal personnel and external clients.
  • Operation of real time simulation equipment/software & troubleshooting.
  • Delivering a professional & high-quality simulator experience for clients and visitors.
  • Execute data analysis for customers.
  • Modify simulation setup, entities, and environmental conditions to create new simulation scenarios to meet customer requirements.
  • Updating policies/procedures and providing relevant documented feedback from the simulator session.
  • Support in implementing and testing hardware and software upgrades.
  • Liaising with colleagues and other departments to plan and schedule simulator sessions.
  • Taking lead on the routine maintenance and the continual upgrading of simulator hardware, software, and the control rooms and shared spaces.
  • Attend team and 1-1 meetings and fulfil reporting requirements as required by Artemis Technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with Artemis Technologies Policies and procedures.
  • Build good working relationships across Artemis Technologies.
  • Contribute to shaping a culture that reflects Artemis Technologies Values and Guiding Principles and enables the company to achieve its goals.

KNOWLEDGE AND SPECIALIST SKILLS:

Education:

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering / Naval Architecture or other relevant engineering discipline such as Automotive or Aerospace. Alternatively, extensive relevant experience in a technical marine background.

Experience:

  • 1 – 2 years of relevant engineering experience within the Automotive, Aerospace or Marine industry. (Desirable)
  • Sailing or other marine experience is welcome

Key Skills Required:

  • Highly organised with a commitment to process and an eye for detail
  • Execution of technical tasks and application of practical skills.
  • Strong computer/software literacy.
  • Good understanding of physical systems modelling
  • Coding experience (e.g. Python, Matlab/Simulink) is useful
  • Exercise absolute integrity in respect of confidential matters.

Communication skills:

  • Good report writing skills – clear, concise, and well structured.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong presentation skills, confident delivering technical material to a mixed technical and non-technical audience.

Teamworking:

  • Ability to relate well to others, and build co-operative and collaborative working relationships, both internally and externally.
  • Ability to discuss and understand mechanical/structural/marine engineering work.

Organising and Time Management:

  • Ability to coordinate with other departments and flag issues.
