Senior Engineer

A great opportunity to join a public body, who ensure the maintenance and improvement of countryside in County Fermanagh This role involves overseeing the management and maintenance of infrastructure, enhancing recreational and commercial use, and spearheading future developments within the Erne System and other designated areas.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Coordinate operational staff for maintenance and construction site works, ensuring the development of safe work plans and conducting inspections.
- Manage consultations and oversee contractors working on property projects to safeguard and enhance waterway assets.
- Conduct site surveys, studies, and evaluations for potential projects, and prepare detailed reports.
- Oversee the design and planning phases of projects, including tender documents and project reviews, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
- Engage with user groups and third parties to facilitate events and develop the waterways for increased recreational use.
- Act as part of the Waterways Ireland Emergency Response Team, providing critical support outside of standard office hours, which includes additional remuneration.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent, qualifying for chartered membership of a professional engineering institution (ICE / IEI).
- Minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience in civil/structural engineering projects, with at least 2 years in an operational environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and IT-based surveying/engineering design tools.
- Strong project management, problem-solving, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and welfare legislation relevant to construction and maintenance works.
- Must hold a current driving licence and have access to transport for supervising widely spread works.
