The journalist will be responsible for overseeing the planning, creation, and publishing of editorial content on the Sync NI website, magazine and social channels.

Key Tasks

  • Writing news and analysis for the website on a daily basis to a consistently high standard with an authoritative editorial voice;
  • Editing and publishing relevant press releases on a daily basis;
  • Creating concise, accurate and engaging editorial content to the quarterly magazine as required;
  • Conducting interviews with leading tech thought leaders and senior executives within the NI tech sector;
  • Developing a broad range of contacts within the NI tech industry and attending industry events;
  • Eye for a story with knowledge of what will perform well;
  • An understanding of Sync NI’s editorial style in order to write in a business-like but conversational tone of voice;
  • Able to take at times complicated information and make into straightforward, digestible information for readers;
  • Editorial and organisational skills to develop and manage an editorial calendar;
  • Manage, write, post and edit a range of content including press releases, interviews, events and job listings;
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn how to create engaging newsletters (MailChimp) in order to continue to grow newsletter sign-up(s);
  • Ensure consistent brand messages across all channels;
  • Social media savvy – candidates should be able to demonstrate in-depth experience of posting across multiple social media platforms in order to best tell a story and encourage readers to click into and read each article;
  • Experience posting for business purposes across multiple social media platforms (LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok);
  • An understanding and working knowledge of media law;
  • Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate previous working knowledge of utilizing best SEO practices in order to maximise reach and readership potential in order to grow an audience online;
  • Comfortable being in front of the camera in order to record regular podcast interviews;
  • Completing light administration work as needed to support the business

Key Skills

  • Experience using content management systems / website, such as a business or personal blog;
  • An interest in and knowledge of Northern Ireland’s technology and business industries is desirable, but not essential;
  • Experience with editing photos, in particular using Photoshop;
  • Proven time management, including working to inflexible deadlines, is a must;
  • Ability to work well with others in a close-knit team;
  • Marketing or understanding of working closely with external stakeholders / advertising clients and/or a proven track record in news writing is a bonus;
  • Video/audio editing skills where possible.

Flexible Working:

  • Sync NI is a flexible employer, operating a hybrid working environment. Upon completion of training, employees will be able to avail of working remotely with agreed mandated office days to facilitate the business needs of the media organisation (such as in-person interviews, creating video content alongside the Multi-Media Content Creator
