Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated, delivery focussed Sustainability Officer with a background in sustainability and a passion for innovation and delivering impact and change. This role will work closely with the Head of Sustainable Manufacturing to collaborate across AMIC’s core capability areas to shape and deliver industry led sustainability projects.

This role is part-funded by The Maritime and Last Mile Net Zero (MaLaMi) project. An EPSRC Place Based Impact Acceleration Account (PBIAA), MaLaMi is delivered in partnership with University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moore’s University. It is one of seven projects announced nationally by UKRI aiming at strengthening emerging and existing research and innovation clusters aiming to stimulate economic growth and address regional needs.

This role will work closely with a community of academics and professional colleagues across the maritime and last mile cluster to establish and facilitate research synergies that have the potential to deliver economic impact.

You will support the development of a maritime and last-mile cluster in collaboration with Northern Ireland Maritime & Offshore (NIMO), Mersey Maritime, MarRI-UK and Liverpool City Region Combined Authority. The role will require significant stakeholder reengagement across industry and the research base and will support networking and showcasing events to promote research synergies, secondment opportunities, proof-of-concept activities and collaborative innovation projects.

About the person:

To be considered for this post, candidates must demonstrate clearly how they meet the following essential criteria:

  • A relevant degree in environmental sciences, engineering or a sustainability related field.
  • Demonstrated professional experience of working with industry and in particular the manufacturing sector to drive sustainability and innovation.
  • Strong applied knowledge of net zero and circular economy concepts.
  • Experience of delivering lifecycle assessments and carbon foot printing with extensive familiarity with associated methodologies and software.
  • Applied knowledge of standards and best practice principles to circular economy, carbon management and netzero.
  • Understanding of supply chain and process optimisation.
  • A robust level of competence in conducting data analysis in Excel and other digital apps/packages (e.g. LCAtools, MS Excel, Power BI).
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of self-motivation, whilst also working in a wider team.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with experience of working with academia and industry.
  • Excellent project management skills with experience of delivering complex, multi-stakeholder projects on time and to budget.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as an ability to influence at all levels.
  • High level of attention to detail and ability to deliver effective written reports and presentations to meet audience needs.
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal and networking skills with ability to relate to and influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Some working outside of standard working times may be required to meet the responsibilities of the post and needs of stakeholders.

This post is available for 3 years. Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
